Performance Reviews – most awaited time of the year by the employees.
Covid -19 has affected all the organizations over the night and all of us started living in new normal condition. Though it is not easy to accept the changes at an earlier stage but now after almost a year people are used to the new normal situation and accepted the challenges & benefits of that. Though workers are working remotely (work from home), but they are giving their hundred percent efforts towards their goals and because of that employees themselves and organizations are surviving.
And now it is the time for performance reviews/ appraisals and all the employees waiting for this willingly and this cannot be avoided by the management due to pandemic. As everyone has accepted the new normal norm of working remotely, performance reviews can also be conducted remotely as a new normal norm and employees will happily enthusiastically welcome this decision of management.
Keeping this in considerations management has to take a step forward and prepare a fair guideline of conducting appraisal which should be easy to understand and should not create a stressful environment among employees.
Let us highlight few key pointers which help management in conducting effective performance reviews for remote workers.
- Regular and structured feedback is the key – During remote working, employees should never feel disconnected from the team or the organization. So regular and structured feedback based on their assigned work should be provided by the manager and there should be discussions scheduled to discuss difficulties if any faced by the employees.
- Monitoring daily schedule – In remote working, the manager not able to monitor employees on a continuous basis unlike in the organization. So here, employees should get monitored or recognized or share reviews based on the output and not on the number of hours spent online.
- Personal touch during reviews – Managers should conduct one-to-one interview sessions with the employees to give feedback, to understand their problems, provide guidance and also discuss about future requirements.
- Self-Assessment – One of the most important factors is self-assessment, here the manager should give some time to employees before conducting a performance review so that employees can do self-evaluation on their work or can have a quick review about self-work. This also plays a crucial role during the performance review session conducted by the manager.

Employees should feel connected and encouraged during these tough times and this simple gesture of management helps.
